I know you are all gonna cry over this recent Sox move. However I must tell you that today they DFA’d reliever Will Ohman. Ohman’s performance over the past 5 games has left a lot to be desired, as he has given up 6 earned runs in not even 5 innings.

I think he sealed his demise Wednesday in Minnesota by giving up 3 runs, plus a walk, while hitting back to back batters. I say that, because the Sox let him go right after the game. Oh yeah, he also plunked a guy on Monday.

Sox took 2 of 3 in Minnesota. Kevin Youkilis had a hit in all 3 games, so I guess his career isn’t over. 5-12 with 2 RBI ain’t bad considering he just got into town Monday.

After recent offensive struggles, I don’t know if Wednesday’s 12-run, 21-hit explosion is a sign of things to come, or just an aberration. It might just be that Nick Blackburn stinks. Either way, nice to see the Sox explode. Coincidentally, they did it with Konerko, Beckham and Viciedo sitting on the bench.

Konerko needed a break, as he is in an 1-17 slump. New #9 hitter, Gordon Beckham, may not like hitting at the bottom of the order. He is 0-6 in his new position in the batting order. Viciedo’s June swoon continues. The starting left fielder went 0-7 in the two games he played, and is now hitting .162 in the 6th month.

One guy who is scorching is Alex Rios, who went 7-13 with 2 bombs in Minnesota.

Nice to see Tyler Flowers get a hit in the finale. I was reading in Sport’s Weekly that Flowers is proving to the Sox that he is not the catcher of the future. That is a f’n joke. What’s the guy have, 48 at bats this year? In 110 at bats last year he hit .209, but struck out 38 times. I am not saying that he should be handed the job if, and when A.J. leaves, but around 160 at bats over the past 2 seasons does not a career make.

I could talk about Chris Sale, but give him 3 runs, and 95% of the time he’ll get the win. The same can’t be said for Gavin Floyd. That’s not completely true, as Floyd has now thrown almost 14 consecutive innings of no run ball. This after giving up 35 runs in his previous 6 starts, including 11 home runs.

Monday night was a wash for Jake Peavy, who lost a close friend earlier. It had to be hard to concentrate, as it would be for any of us. Moving on.

Coming into Wednesday’s game, Adam Dunn was in a 0-26 slump. He did have 6 walks in those 9 games, but nothing else. He snapped that with 3 hits, including his 25th home run of the year in the finale. He is now tied with Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays for the A.L. lead.

Now Sox fans, do you think this is it for this edition of the South Siders, or do you think the window will remain open for awhile? Let’s see:

Jake Peavy and Pierzynski are free agents after this season. Sox can either pay Peavy 22-million in 2013 or buy him out at 4 million. If he wins 30, the Sox will pick up the option..if not, he’s gone.

Floyd has a 9.5 millions dollar option in 2013. I can’t see them picking that up.

Youkilis has a 13-million dollar option that the Sox can exercise, or buy him put for 1-million. With Morel’s health an issue, and no 3rd baseman on the horizon, I can see them picking up that option, if Youkilis proves to have something left.

Konerko has 1 year left on his deal. Dunn has 2, as does Alex Rios.

Sox have tough decisions to make. If they bring everybody but Peavy back, they could be looking at a very old team next year, and, oh yeah, a huge payroll.

I guess I am saying, “Enjoy this now, because it may not be the same team next year.”
