The White Sox acquired Kevin Youkilis from the Boston Red Sox! I can’t speak for you, but I am ecstatic about the move. I love Brent Morel, and Orlando Hudson has done a nice job holding the fort at 3rd, but Youkilis is a man!
Not only can he hit and field, but he is a winner. A 2-time World Series Champion isn’t a bad guy to add to the mix. Don’t know what kind of clubhouse guy he is, but if he was a bad guy, we all would have known about it.
You knew Youkilis’ days in Boston were numbered after Manager Bobby Valentine called the guy out early in the season. From what I’ve seen and read, Youkilis has been a true team player for the Red Sox. He moved from 1st to 3rd almost weekly. It wasn’t until the Sox got Adrian Gonzalez that Youkilis was bumped back to 3rd for good.
Youkilis is a career .289 hitter with 129 career home runs and 550 RBI.
Youkilis really fills a troublesome spot for the Sox, which is 3rd base. Since Joe Crede left in 2009, 6 main guys have combined to hit 40 home runs, while driving in 196 RBI
Last year Youkilis hit drove in 80 while hitting 17 bombs. In limited games this year, the new Sox 3rd baseman has 4 home runs and 17 RBI. I think those numbers will at least triple in Chicago.
Red Sox are picking up most of the money owed to Youkilis the rest of the season, but he does have a 13-million option for nest year. The Sox are playing to win right now, so who cares about next year.
To get their new guy, the Sox gave up Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge. Those two guys played their asses off in Chicago, and am sorry to see them go, but if you have chance to get Youkilis you have to take it.
One more note. The last time the Red Sox traded a superstar was back in 2008 when they shipped Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers. Manram helped lead the Dodgers to the playoffs that year. I think the Sox will take that.
Great move by Kenny Williams and the White Sox.
