Courtney Hawkins is excited, literally, to be part of the Sox organization

I think you have all heard by now that the Sox selected 13th in this year’s baseball draft. The last time they picked that spot, they grabbed Chris Sale, who has everyone in the Sox organization doing flips.

This year, the Sox nabbed outfielder Courtney Hawkins out of Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. What did Hawkins do when he found out he ws picked by the Sox? He flipped, literally.. Check it out:

this isn’t the first time the guy did a flip. He also accomplished the feat in high school.

Hawkins is quite a story, having ballooned to 270 pounds by the time he was 14 years old. A promise from his brother to help him drop the weight did the trick for Hawkins, who now, at 18, tips the scales at a svelte 220 pounds.

Hawkins is the first high school player picked by the Sox in the first round since Kris Honel went in 2001. Honel was a pitcher. BTW: Hawkins is listed as an outfielder, but he also quite the pitcher, too.

It’ll take a couple, 3 years, for Hawkins to get to Chicago, but one thing that we won’t ever see again is the flip. Reading on the Sox site on MLB.com, Sox General Manager Ken Williams said that’s the last flip that Hawkins will ever attempt, at least as a member of the Sox.

I really wish I was a fly on the wall next to Williams when Hawkins did the flip.

Can’t wait to see the guy next spring in Arizona.
