Here come the changes. Robin Ventura has already been named manager of the Sox. His coaches will be announced in the next week, or two. I think you should all get familiar with the names Parent, McEwing and Manto.
General Manager Ken Williams is a trip to Latin America, no doubt hoping to unearth another Alexei Ramirez or Dayan Viceido. I’m sure he is glad to not have to face the media every day.
Anyway, the Sox roster is about to undergo some major changes. 4 players were taken off the active roster recently. Tony Pena was activated from the 60 day DL, and fired. Pena was a key cog in the Sox pen 2 years ago as they made a late run at the Central title. Going between starting and relieving, Pena was invaluable. He hurt his arm early in the 2011 season, and never came back. As you know, baseball is about what have you done for me lately so Pena is gone. I wonder if there’ll be any openings on the Marlins roster?
Loved the heartwarming story about Shane Lindsay. Remember, the one where his mom flew all night from Australia to watch her boy pitch. He had some good outings in Sox colors, but not enough for the Sox to keep him on their active roster. Do you think when they let Lindsay go someone said, “Good aye mate?”
Also jettisoned was Kyle Cofield, Josh Kinney and Leyson Spetimo. Well jettisoned isn’t a fair word, they were outrighted to Charlotte. Still not a good sign.
I’ll remember Kinney most from his September 12th outing against the Tigers. He allowed 8 hits and 6 earned runs in 1 inning. The Tigers just scalded the ball against the guy. Kinney has a lot of experience and a good arm, he’ll end up somewhere.
Don’t know much about Cofield or Leyson Septimo. You never know, one of these guys could be a future star somewhere in baseball. I’m sure they’ll be in Sox camp come February.
