Whew, when I first read that Jake Peavy was headed to the DL, only the worst thoughts crossed my mind. I was glad to find out that his trip is due to a groin pull.
At least I figured out why Peavy looked so horrible in the 4th inning against the Tigers on Sunday.
It’s a great move for the Sox, who have to be extra cautious with Peavy. Peavy over compensated with his ankle injury when he arrived from the Padres and tore the Lat muscle, so any twinge and Peavy will be out.
I wouldn’t expect a huge year from him anyhow. 7 wins, and I think they’ll consider it a a good season. Yes, I know they are paying him millions of dollars, but at this point what can you do.
Mark Teahen is back. He is another of the Sox trades/free agent signees that hasn’t worked out. Peavy, Dunn and Teahen really haven’t lived up to expectations.
Go Sox!

How long you think he’ll be on the DL? I was hoping for more than 7 wins from him this year… guess I’m a bit of an optimist? take care
I believe, his return is set for a week from Tuesday, but I think he’ll be out longer. With his past injuries, they will be using kid gloves around him. Having not pitched much in the past 11 months, these type injuries (groin, hammy, calf, muscle strains, in general), are going to pop up quite a bit. Peavy has 2 wins, and, by the time he returns it’ll be past the middle of June. That gives him, without any more problems 15-16 starts. Assuming the Sox play up to their capabilities, he should, in my opinion, win 6 of those games. That’ll give him 8 wins. From what I’ve seen in the spring, and the first 3 months of the season, Peavy’s injuries woes are not behind him. I hope I am wrong because I like, and respect, him so much.
Pete. He is one of the most competitive players I have ever encountered. He could very well come back in a couple weeks throwing darts. I am just concerned that it’s been one thing after another for him. We’ll see you soon.
Thanks Bill! Based on your spring training conversations with him and how much of a stud he was in San Diego, I picked him up for my fantasy team a month or so ago. He’s been, um, pretty good? Anyway, thanks for the reply. Take care out there, we still need to catch an Angels game together… -pete
