The Sox made a couple moves. DFA’ing Dallas McPherson and sending out pitcher Lucas Harrell. The Sox bull pen has been taxed lately, so they only think they could do was these two moves.
I feel bad for McPherson. He has battled injuries his entire career, and is no longer the top prospect he once was. He won’t get the extended look he may have received 5 years ago. 2 hits in 15 at bats just didn’t cut in Chicago. When I saw him, he appeared to be having a lot of trouble hitting breaking balls, or for those not understanding, balls that are thrown slower, but move around a lot.
If McPherson isn’t claimed by another team, he’ll probably end up back in Charlotte.
Harrell was a different story. He pitched 4 innings the other day in Toronto, so he wasn’t going to pitch anytime soon. He’ll be back later in the season.
Brian Bruney and Jeff Marquez were recalled to take their place. Both used to pitch in the Yankees organization. Bruney pitched with big club, while Marquez was a prospect.
Marquez was part of the Nick Swisher-Garcia deal. He has had a few chances with the big club, with limited success.
