If you haven’t heard by now, Jake Peavy had to leave his rehab start tonight with discomfort. Peavy is trying to recover from an a torn lat muscle. Basically, the tendon that anchors the latissimus dorsi muscle tore off, and Peavy is the first ever baseball player to have this type of reattachment surgery. If you are wondering if this is painful, in a off camera interview, Peavy said it was the most painful thing he has ever felt. As one of the most competitive guys I have ever seen, I tend to agree with him.
I interviewed Peavy about 16 times during the spring, and you won’t find a harder working, nicer guy. It sucks that he just can’t get over this. He had a bout of rotator inflammation right near the end of spring training, hopefully that’s all this is.
Phil Humber is now going to get an extended test, let’s hope he is up for it.
