Not again!! Sox stumble late

Man a loss snatched from the jaws of victory. They only led 1-0 in the 9th, but the Sox were in control. Matt Thornton was looking for his first save of the year. Things couldn’t go as badly as they did 3 days prior, when two Sox errors turned in to 5 unearned runs. Unfortunately, they did, and shockingly the error that did in the Sox and Thornton tonight was committed by the same guy. Juan Pierre badly misplayed Daric Bartons ball, which scored Andy LaRoche with the tying run. There was a bad wind going tonight, but Pierre has to make that catch.

The talk for most of the night was about Mark Buehrle. The Sox lefty kept the A’s hitless going in to the 6th inning, only allowing 2 hits through 8 innings. Listening to the Sox broadcast, they said that’s the best Buehrle has thrown in almost a year. I think the A’s would agree. I always hear how slow Buehrle throws, but he just knows how to pitch. I guess the free agency thing isn’t weighing him down.

It appropriate that Kurt Suzuki would hit the game winning home run, as he is from CSUF. Really though, the Sox broadcasters raved about him. Saying that he calls one of the best games in baseball, and that he is so proficient offensively. He showed some of the offensive production to Jesse Crain, who watched his gas get turned around in a hurry in the 10th inning. The A’s won tonight’s  game 2-1 in 20 innings. Oakland is a real good team, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they win the AL West.

The Sox loss also ruined a good night by Brett Lillibridge, who smacked his first home run of the season in the 5th inning off Dallas Braden. That was the 10,000 home run hit for the White Sox franchise covering 112 years.

Not a perfect game for the Sox or the A’s, who starters both threw perfect game in their careers. But, the A’s did get the best of Chicago tonight. I think Pierre owes Thornton a dinner.
