Dunn Out Next Five Games Due To Appendectomy

Dunn will look to his fellow teammates to fill his void in the lineup

Alex Rios will likely fill Dunn’s role during his absence, batting third like he did last season.

Adam Dunn underwent an emergency appendectomy Tuesday night and will miss at least five contests.

The team said Dunn felt discomfort during its 7-6, 12-inning loss Tuesday and was taken to a hospital after the game. He is expected to accompany the club to Chicago after Wednesday’s afternoon tilt in K.C.

Dunn scored a run and was 0 for 4 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch against the Royals.  Brent Lillibridge replaced him on the basepaths in the 12th, and was picked off attempting to swipe 3rd base.

Dunn is swinging the lumber at a .286 clip with one round-tripper and is currently 45 jacks away from reaching 400 long balls for his career.  Look for Lastings Milledge to see some time in the outfield, with Carlos Quentin taking Dunn’s cuts at the DH spot.  Also, don’t rule out the possibility of Mark Teahen getting some looks in the outfield while Dunn is sidelined.

In other news: Outfielder Dayan Viciedo (thumb) has been lifted off the 15-day DL and now is in Charlotte with the ChiSox’s Triple A affiliate.
