It was a tough day for the White Sox. Dayan Viciedo, vying for a spot on the Sox, was hit by a pitch, broke his thumb, and will be out upwards of a month.
I think the Sox would’ve liked to have seen Viciedo get more at bats in the minors, but with the way he was playing, was forcing his way on to the roster.
I bet Brent Lillibridge and Lastings Milledge are happy. Not because Viceido got hurt, but it helps their chances of breaking camp with the team. Both of them are fine players and good guys, but I think Milledge will get the spot. I’m usually wrong though.
Good outing recently by Phil Humber. You remember Humber, the 3rd overall draft pick out of Rice a few years back. His career has taken him to 4, maybe 5 organizations, but if he keeps pitching like he did on Wednesday, he’ll find a spot in someone’s rotation.
Camp, unlike last year, has been real quiet. No Ozzie blowups or long rants, just normal baseball stuff.
Love the way Tyler Flowers is swinging the bat and playing defense. The criticism of him was that his offense was weak. He told me he has found his stroke and so far is proving it on the field. Defensively, he has a cannon for an arm. I’ve seen him gun a guy out at second and third, while calling a strong game. He’s another guy who should have a great future in front of him.
I’ll write soon.
